A Marvelous Merlot for Mom
We’re pleased to introduce our new vintage of Masseria Merlot – just in time for Mother’s Day. Merlot means “little blackbird’ in French and nothing could be sweeter than sharing a bottle of this delicious Long Island red with Mom and other family members. Our sumptuous Masseria Merlot red exudes bright black cherry, blackberry and plum compote aromas complemented by savory oak tones. It’s rich, round and fruit-centered, with vibrant dark cherry flavors balanced by firm, supple tannins. Unlike many American Merlots designed for immediate consumption, Masseria Merlot has the structure and depth for aging, although it’s delicious now with savory red meats and flavorful cheeses. We made only 149 cases, so grab it while it’s hot! Click here to order.

Chardonnay Two Ways
In April, we bottled two different versions of Chardonnay from the 2007 vintage, both from grapes grown on Long Island’s famed Wolffer Estate. Our “Cappella” Chardonnay was fermented and aged primarily in stainless steel tanks while our “Riserva” was fermented in French oak barrels and then aged in barrel on the yeast lees, with 50% going through a secondary, malolactic fermentation. This approach resulted in a fuller, richer wine with a creamy texture and ripe, toasty flavors.

The "Cappella" is for people who like their Chardonnays fresh, crisp and fruity, and it’s a great match for Long Island shellfish – clams, scallops and oysters. The "Riserva" will appeal to aficionados of big, lush Chardonnays, and it’s better-suited to richer foods. Both are delightful and are available now.

Proud Papa
We’re not exactly sure how it happened, but our younger son, Steven, has become a budding rock star. His band, Push Play, has been featured on the front cover of both the New York Times (where he was described as “the sensitive one’) and Newsday, which referred to the quartet as Long Island’s “new fab four”. Steve usually helps out with harvesting and bottling, but this year, with the band’s busy schedule (they’ve already played New York, Boston, Chicago and Milwaukee, with Orlando on tap), it looks like we may lose a valuable worker to the music business!
